Portfolio

Design is made up of many elements: typography, colour, and negative space all contribute to visual appeal, each aspect being just as important as the other. Combine these ingredients with web standards and usability, and you have yourself a work of art that's both practical and pleasing to the eye. That is my design philosophy. Adolescent Blues

Adolescent Blues was my submission to the Dave Shea's highly-acclaimed CSS Zen Garden. It was my first graphically-intensive work. The name of the piece reflects the depressing colours and worn-out look. And yes, I was an adolescent when I worked on this.

The project was both fun and educational for me as a web designer. The graphic design phase the longest time, however. Randomized grunginess takes time and patience. The trick is to create lengthy background images so that any repetitions of motifs aren't easily noticible. view this work »

Reseller Guide

Reseller Guide is an online guide to reseller hosting, with regularly published news articles with tips on improving your website.

I was hired to redesign the website using web standards. This new design features a tabbed navigation system that shows the sections of the main guide for quick access.

The new logo is based on the capital letter R. I manipulated the negative space into arrowheads, with the larger one “guiding” the smaller one. view this work »

Terry Hardless Publishing

Terry Hardless is a piano teacher, composer, and author of theory workbooks entitled “Theory Made Easy The Hardless Way”. She is the founder of the Hardless Music Studio.

In the past, Hardless has written many songs with piano accompaniment. I helped her engrave her handwritten manuscripts into a clean digital version for printing. In addition, I designed a logo for her new publications. The logo emphasizes round corners and subtly joined letter forms for a solid look.

Web Hosting Unleashed

Web Hosting Unleashed is an online repository of over 5000 reviews of web hosts. The website is maintained by the same owners of Reseller Guide.

They wanted a new standards-compliant tableless design. New features include a tabbed navigation system and a more organized information hierarchy. The new logo I designed gives more emphasis to the “unleashed” notion and is based on the letter W and various geometric shapes. view this work »

Barcarolle Op. 16

This piano solo was commissioned by the Coquitlam–Maple-Ridge Branch of the British Columbia Registered Music Teachers Association (BCRMTA) in 2004. While maintaining the venetian-boat-song character of the barcarolle, I incorporated various modern musical elements, as well as synchopated rhythms between the two hands. The main motif first appears in the introduction section, and is then manipulated in various ways. listen to this work »
